Typically, the glue used is water based, though that in itself leaves your options open. The most common type of glue used in this industrial process is latex glue. Therefore, it’s quite common for manufacturers to utilize this machine. However, this is not the only approach you can take when making adhesive coatings.


What is a Hot Melt Adhesive Coating Machine?


The interesting quality of a hot melt adhesive coating machine is that it coats without the use of water or solvents. The machine is also referred to as a slot die coating machine. Typically, we use water or solvents to decrease the viscosity of adhesives and make their application easier. The problem with this approach is that we heat adhesives in the process and they are in turn made very thin.


With a hot melt adhesive coating machine, we melt the adhesive beforehand. The slot dies allow the machine to apply adhesives evenly and accurately, without wasting time. Not only does this allow you to skip the cleanup required when we use excessive adhesive; it also decreases waste. Standard adhesive coating techniques often leave you with leftover liquid coating solution. Additionally, this means that there is less risk of wrinkling or curling.


Furthermore, when you apply adhesive coating without water-based or solution-based adhesives, you don’t need a separate drying component. The process is automatic and doesn’t require an additional product. Once again, this increases the efficiency of the process, and cuts down on the amount of materials necessary.


Because there is not an excessive amount of adhesive used, there is no need for a reservoir in a hot melt adhesive coating machine. Therefore, the overall machine itself is smaller. It also uses less energy, which makes it more cost efficient and even more environmentally friendly. This is why many business owners prefer the holt melt adhesive coating technique. But that doesn’t mean they can use it easily themselves.
